A key objective of the FCM-RAC Proximity Initiative is to promote greater dialogue and understanding between the Canadian rail sector and a variety of stakeholders including municipalities, local government associations, and provinces, aimed at fostering an environment of mutual benefit in the development and implementation of effective solutions to proximity issues.
The FCM-RAC proximity Initiative members have actively promoted the Guidelines for New Development in Proximity to Railway Operations by giving presentations, publishing articles and participating in conferences hosted by provincial municipal associations and local government associations. In addition the members have worked to inform provincial governments about the impact of land-planning decisions on rail safety, encouraging them to include guideline-based measures in their respective land-planning policies.
